PERTH AMBOY, N.J. – With the support of TICIC Mayor Joseph Vas is pleased to announce the official commencement of the King Plaza mixed-use redevelopment project. The multi-million dollar project will redevelop three underutilized lots and breathe new life into Perth Amboy’s downtown commercial/retail district by providing affordable apartment units, constructing much needed downtown parking amenities, and constructing new and rehabilitating existing retail/commercial facilities. A ceremony was held today on King Street, celebrating the groundbreaking.
“This is a project that we have believed in since its inception. The onset of site work is a testament to the redeveloper’s commitment to the city and the city’s commitment to its residents and merchants,” stated Mayor Vas. “While already a bustling shopping district, this project will ensure the continued success and growth of our downtown in the years to come.”
King Plaza is a mixed-use residential/commercial project that will be constructed in two phases. The first phase, King Plaza One, will provide 124 affordable apartment units, approximately 33,000 square feet of commercial/retail space, a 3-level parking garage and a 100-space surface parking lot that will be a benefit to both residents and shoppers. King Plaza Two will rehabilitate three existing buildings to create 101 apartment units, 33,000 square feet of commercial space and 49 off-street parking spaces.
“We’d like to thank Mayor Vas and the Perth Amboy Redevelopment Agency for having the foresight to understand the benefits that a project such as this will bring to the community,” stated Eduardo Trujillo. “The interest in this project has been overwhelming. Thanks to the Administration’s tireless efforts, Perth Amboy is becoming the place where smart businesses want to grow and people want to live.”
